I recently rewatched MM's ER stint and was so infuriated, this time, that she never came back and her storyline was dropped, so I'm even more enamoured of your prose-poem. Once more, you've manged to distill the character in lucid, vivid prose. You should so publish these or submit them to a short story contest; you could so win.
She was absolutely phenomenal in ER - not to say that she isn't always, but Eleanor Carter was one of her most nuanced, layered, heartbreaking performances. You're right, it's a shame that she never returned, but I like to think she made peace with her son and came to a somewhat happier conclusion than I portrayed here ;) I just like angst, I guess!
Thank you so much for your lovely comments. I was thinking about sending these to Mary, but I doubt I'll go through with it - too intimidating! Your wonderful words mean a lot, though :) ♥
oh please, i'm converted to being a fangurl of your prosepotenspuellaMay 7 2009, 01:30:10 UTC
I absolutely agree with your assessment; she was spectatular in the role and even though I knew it was her, she really lost herself in the role, though it helped she had the darker miniseries hair and the ubergorgeous hair we all know and lurve. The bathroom scene, however, was unintentionally hilarious to me, since it reminded me of EJO's Adama. ah, the crossover potential:) and the hilarious stories :) As for sending it, since you'd be using a nomdeplume, it might be easier, since it's very literally (pun not intended) not you, and you could always send it along in next year's scrapbook. As for the angst, i'm a jossgurl, so angst is fine by me
I loved Mary's portrayl of Eleanor, it was so complex and she got that across right from the start. I was just so...angry that they dropped the character just as she was starting to reveal all the layers, *sigh* but I like to think she had a happy ending. (Although, I adore angst, so now your ending here is fighting with that happy one.)
But you, you let out the complexities and make it all sound so beautiful (even death) and while I would have loved it for those reasons alone, the fact that no one really writes Eleanor makes it all the more special.
I can't believe this series is almost over! She *needs* to play more parts, so next year we get a whole new set. One that gets extended out from seven as well. ;)

I know, I really do want her to have a happy ending but she seems so prone to angst! In this little piece I figure that she and John might have worked things out and had more of a relationship.
I'm so happy you liked it! I had trouble with this one, because Eleanor really is such an amazingly nuanced character and I wanted to try and get that across. I'd love to see more fic about her - I think that Socket's site used to have a few, but it's been taken down :(
Mary's guest stunt on "ER" has always been one of my all-time favorites, long before I'd ever even heard of BSG or started fangirling her. So yes, appreciate this very much. :)
I've always wondered what happened to Eleanor. I mean a lot of stuff went down with Carter and I thought she'd come back in the picture. I also thought the dad was kind of a jerk. Poor Carter tried very hard. I wanted to see if they were able to save their marriage.
I wish she had come back! I don't know what happened with Carter but I would have loved to see her involved. And I imagined that they didn't manage to, but I hope she found happiness somehow :)
