Wow. WOW! This episode was absolutely amazing in regards to Mary/Marshall. So many wonderful moments, and one that made my jaw drop and sent my heart all aflutter. You know the one I'm talking about.
- Okay, I'm just going to skip straight to the Mary/Marshall, because that's what you're all here for... and because my brain is too clouded with their awesomeness to think about anything else.
They are reading the paper together leisurely. Such a very low key, intimate moment. And it shows that they hang out together outside of work because they enjoy being in each other's company. Also, I love this moment because Marshall is very not so subtly trying to get a read on her feelings for Raphael (and he says "boyfriend" with a little contempt. Or amusement). He can tell that Mary's disturbed at the thought of Raph being away from her, which makes Marshall not very happy.
Also, Mary gets jealous when Marshall ogles her sister.
And Marshall has mambo pants.
And then Marshall and the pool guy race to sunscreen Mary's sister.
- Raph is going to Florida. Woohoo! I seriously doubt that he's out of the picture though.
- Marshall is the epitome of adorable as he does the mambo.
Sadly it didn't entice Mary. But it did Stan.
- Raph proposes to Mary and scares the hell out of her. I almost feel some love for Raph here. Almost. He was trying to be romantic and he was really putting himself out there. But the fact that he was pulling some schmoopy romantic gesture on Mary just shows how much he doesn't get her and how wrong they are for each other. His romanticism will always be lost on Mary. It's the small, every day gestures that count with her, not the showy ones. But it was really sweet of him, and I felt bad for him. But he's still too needy and he does all the wrong things to get some feeling out of Mary.
- Mary's a badass even in a horrid bride's maid dress
- The dress works for Stan, yes?
I love that the idea of Mary wearing something like that is so absurd to him that he automatically assumes it belongs to Marshall. And Mary lets him believe it.
- Marshall really likes Mary's whorish outfit, as evidenced by his stiffy:
And then Mary calls him a pervis and sashays away. You know that extra swing in her hips was purely to play with Marshall's head.
See?
- Lots of stuff happens at the party, Treena continues being awesome, Mary sulks over Raph with a stripper named Rod, then Marshall has to find Mary to warn her about Dershowitz. His face when he finds her drinking with a stripper?
Adorable, and slightly amused, because he loves her!
See? It's love.
- The diamond smugglers find Treena and she really does love her fiance and blah blah blah, but nobody really cares, because THIS HAPPENS:
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!!! I never expected to get something this good so early on. Marshall's attraction to Mary is completely confirmed, and his inability to control his passion during the almost kiss despite the fact that there were killers 15 feet away from them shows us just how much Marshall has been yearning for Mary. That's right. Yearning. After Hoosier Daddy I had my suspicions that Marshall was secretly harboring feelings for Mary, and now this episode has pretty much confirmed it (
as did this Fred Weller interview). Anyway, this moment made my shipper heart sing with glee. It was wonderful. I especially love Marshall's utter confusion, his excitement, then his confusion again. I am gobsmacked in love with this character, from his jammies to his mambo lessons to his quiet love for Mary, he's amazing. I love him.
Oh yes.
- Mary asking Marshall about the kiss caused much awkwardness as he tried to come up with an answer other than, "Because I'm in love with you, damn it!" Also, Mary calls herself Marshall's best friend.
And Dershowitz goes by on a horse.
- And then Mary and Marshall melt my heart with these loving smiles.
They really do appreciate each other, which is just plain beautiful.
- I love Treena's line, "Maybe you should allow yourself the possibility of something greater." I know that Mary's mind automatically went to Raph, but mine went to Marshall. Mary spends the whole episode talking about finding her happily ever after, but I can't help but look at Marshall and say, "Mary, it's right there in plain sight." She's looking too hard with Raph, which will inevitably prevent them from actually being happy.
Overall thoughts:
This episode was wonderful. I think the show is really starting to find its footing. I even adored the sister in this episode, and not having the mother around helped the episode immensely. The A-plot was awesome, the jokes were pretty funny, and best of all, the Mary/Marshall interaction was amazing. Loved it!
I went a little crazy with the screencaps this time. Anyway, what did you all think of the episode?
