So, is this like some sort of exposure therapy? The way psychologists would make a germophobic person touch something dirty until it no longer causes them anxiety? Although it seems to have the opposite effect - I don't even hate Raph and that made me feel all barf-y.

Good lord, no! Desensitization was not the goal; quite the opposite. The deal is if either one of us goes NEAR spoilers for the show, we have to write a story where Mary is totally in love & happy with Raph.

Because we don't want to do that - don't want to even THINK about it - we're hoping it helps us stay away. :)

This was done just to show exactly how truly horrifying such a story would be.

For the record, the very thought of Raph & Mary makes me ill. I refuse to watch it onscreen, so I normally would not go near it in fic.
