S'almost summertime.

It was nearly the end of the semester. As such, there were exams coming up, presentations to think about, and projects to wrap up. The last option, there... That one was Laurie's chief concern. It was a two-person thing, and, bad as it was, she hadn't even managed to set up a meeting time or anything with her partner ( Read more... )

Kevin looked up from the sketch that he'd been doing.

Well, etching.

Into a metal sheet.

With a nail.

Because paper just didn't exist around him.

There was a slight scowl on his face, but seeing Laurie, that scowl quickly turned into something passably pleasant.

Wow. It was somebody who spoke almost as awkwardly as she did! How could she have not quite discovered this wonder before? She laughed, light and short. "It's cool. I'm free for most of the week-end, if you are. Except Sunday evening."

He usually seemed pretty cool and quiet off in his corner, brooding, creating, always with something on his mind. The thing was, though, that part of it was because of the fact that he didn't really feel comfortable with the other students there. All of their powers...well...none of their powers spoke to them, not the way that they did with Kevin. None of them urged him to...

I'm not thinking about that.

"What's going on Sunday evening?"

Laurie shrugged, taking a moment to look particularly bashful. This was probably something a little embarrassing to admit to somebody that didn't really know her. "I have dinner with my mom on Sundays." It probably sounded pretty childish. Most of the students here lived way far away from their parents, some not welcomed home, some... Doing without altogether. "She lives in town, so... Yeah."
