A new student for Xavier's Institute

There's been a radical change in Pietro Maximoff's life, but despite the circumstances that fostered it, he nevertheless feels a sense of optimism. Thanos' assault on Attilan and Maximus' subsequent attack on his daughter were reprehensible, and he will see that Maximus suffers. However... his daughter, the girl he had feared for so much for not ( Read more... )

Luna was dressed in human clothing too, but at the moment she wasn't very sure she liked it. She wasn't so sure about that, despite her Father's apparent optimism. It wasn't home. She might have always found ways away from home but she always came back.

This place was different.

"It's big," was all she said. And there were a lot of people and she had a headache. "And ugly. Are human buildings always so ugly?" It wasn't really, s he just felt the need to say that.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, little one. What is ugly to you can be beautiful to others. There are humans who would think the structures in Attilan are hideous and twisted."

Luna crinkled her nose at that, "Well, now that most of them are broken maybe. But they aren't. They're... pretty." In a way. "Can Lockjaw stay with me here? Please?"

Easy ways out were good. Besides, she loved the big dog so much.

"Lockjaw is needed right now to help rebuild Attilan, Luna. But I am sure we will be able to have him visit you often," he says, with a comforting hand on her shoulder.

After leading Luna to her room, Professor Xavier takes a moment to corner Pietro. "You wanted to speak to me privately, yes?" The Professor figures it is mostly new parent stuff, but there's always a chance for additional concerns when dealing with a situation like Luna's.

Pietro's arms cross.

"I did. I wish to thank you for taking my daughter in to help her learn to control her abilities, but I also need to express concern about how much information about her we can give to Magneto, especially due to his recent threats."

"You are welcome, Pietro. Our doors are always open, though I had assumed she would train with one of the Inhumans." Xavier replies, steeping his fingers and waiting for...aah, there's the other shoe. Magneto.

Isn't it always?, some cynical part of his brain protests, even as Xavier frowns a little. "I did not intend to give him access to her journal, if that is what you mean. I simply believe that a courtesy call would prevent Erik from coming to an unfortunate conclusion when he discovers where his granddaughter has been studying. But, please, express your opinion, Pietro."

His opinion is that Luna should have absolutely no contact with Magneto ever. Period. But as ever, he's trying to heed the lessons learned from his rather painful experience with Dr. Strange many months ago, and be more diligent in separating his opinion from truth.

It's an arduous process for him, and it's written plainly on his face as well as his thoughts.

"He is planning open war on Genosha. Even when I was aiding him there before the catastrophe, I wanted Luna kept as far away from that place as possible. With the way events seem to be unfolding, I have reasonable fear that your X-Men will find themselves on that island once more ( ... )

As her Father and the Professor moved off after showing her to her new room, Luna looked up at Kurt, "Are you really going to teach me how to sword fight?"

"I certainly can, if you wish. I am the primary fencing instructor here at the institute. I have been known to fight with up to four swords at one time."

He grins, proud of his enhanced agility and prehensile tail and feet.

"Have you ever used a sword before?"

He wasn't lying about that, Luna could tell. She shrugged, "Cousin Gorgon taught me a little. I know where all the weapons are kept," she said, "At least I did, they might be moving them now."

"There are several different kinds. Some swords cut with the edge, using a slashing motion. Others use only the tip. I would wager that Gorgon favors the former kind, to take advantage of his strength."
