Powers today, gone tomorrow (shortly after Crisis of Faith)

Sofia stepped outside the school building. Her arm was in a sling, the bullet had shattered the bones in her arm. And she thought the first time she broke her arm had been bad ( Read more... )

Laurie was coming from the library when she noticed Sofia on the lawn. Of course, she didn't know about her predicament, and so approached with a smile. "Hey. Feeling better?"

"I do not know. I can't- my powers are gone!" She held out her hands in an attempt to manipulate the wind again, maybe she needed help visualizing the movement.

It didn't help. "I don't believe it!"

Sofia just got a confused sort of stare from her roommate, because Laurie couldn't think of anything to say to that. That seemed so... Sudden. She would've wondered whether Sofia was just mistaken, but she wasn't the type to not know her own powers.

"Maybe it's just... Just a side-effect of being injured, you know? It'll get better once you're up for it again." She was trying to be as helpful as she could on short notice, stepping up to set a hand on Sofia's good-sided shoulder. "Maybe we should go and tell someone. The staff would know what to do. Before we panic, you know..."

"I- maybe. You're right. I am sure this is only temporary." But she didn't sound so sure. "I should ask Professor McCoy or Dr. Reyes." They'd know what to do. After all Professor Summers had lost his power and recently got them back. What was there to worry about?

Despite her recovery, Calvin hasn't let Sofia wander too far that he doesn't know of while she's still in recovery. Mostly its just casual checks now and then, telepathically so she won't usually notice, to make sure she's alright. Not really reading her mind, just getting an overview.

The latest, though, definitely does not say 'ok'.

He has little difficulty finding her, teleporting out to the field.

"Sofia... you ok?"

Sofia fought the urge to hug Cal and burst into tears. She was too big to act like that. Really. "I don't have my powers!"

He's a telepath, and even being careful, he still catches the surge of emotion. She doesn't have to give in - he hugs her instead. She can act embarassed in front of her friends later if she wants.

"After trauma, a lot of the time powers change, or mutants have trouble with them. For a time, Colossus couldn't change easily between forms, I know the Spider Man I knew struggled with his abilities... give it some time." He wishes he felt as sure as he's trying to sound.

She was glad to have an excuse to cling to him. "How much time?" She doubted she was going to get a specific answer. "Dr. Reyes or Beast can fix it, right?"
