Just a stomach bug...

The honeymoon had been great. It had been, by far, the best part of the wedding. Except for the last little bit there where she had gotten this bug that she just couldn't shake. It had to be a stomach bug, but instead of just letting it run its course she had promised Alex she'd get it checked out ( Read more... )

Hank studied the computer screen before him, tied into the mansion's main diagnostic computer. His files were, of course, naturally encrypted. No one could access them except for him. Doctor patient confidentiality, after all.

Finally, the computer pinged. He's gotten the sound file of an old microwave off the internet and made it his standard "results done" sound. The wonders of customization and the modern age of technology.

He did his best to keep his expression calm and controlled. "Well, Lorna, given these results..."

"Yeah...?" she prompted, not sitting down. After all, it would take maybe thirty seconds to tell her she was fine and then she'd go find Alex.

And do what they'd been doing for about 90% of their honeymoon. Which would be a lot more welcome than just trying to keep lunch down.

Hank looked down to the printout as the printer spit it out, reading it carefully, as though checking for a mistake.

Wait, what? Shock went over her face before she covered the expression up quickly. He had to be playing some joke on her. "Haha, Hank. Very funny. What's it really say?"

Lorna went in search of her errant husband. First stop was their (yes, single room now, yay!) room. Her heart was pounding, she had no idea how she was going to say this.

First, she had to see if he was in there, "Alex...?" she asked, opening the door.

Luckily for her, he was.

He had all his clothes and whatnot packed - it was just about time to head back to Columbia and put his nose back to the academic grindstone.

"Hey!" he said happily, looking up to see his darling bride. "What's up?"

She looked around at the packing. Yeah, this was going to be great, "I..." she paused, "Want to go for a ride in Scott's car?"

Yeah, she was going to have to work up to this. Which gave her an excuse to act like a teenager for awhile.

"Ummm." he said intelligently, scratching his blond hair. "Why don't you give me a ride back to campus in Scott's car so you can work yourself up to whatever it is you're trying to work yourself up to." he said with a wry grin.

Yes, he knew Lorna and her stalling tactics quite well.
