Bowling for Mutants

Mar 05, 2008 14:49

The entire Bowl-O-Rama was rented out for the evening by X-Corporation. The employees of the bowling alley given paid leave, and replaced by some of Madrox's duplicates.

It's all over but the waiting - tonight, X-Factor will be born anew.

Jamie's already practicing on lane one, waiting for the guests to arrive.

Bowling.

Shard stand outside the building for a few moments, just staring at the doors while screwing up her courage. This sort of thing was almost easier as a hologram.

Finally, she takes a breath and walks in, looking around. "Well. Interesting place for a meeting, that's for sure."

Kate enters not long after Shard. Prior to joining Jamie, however, Kate stops off to get her shoes. A pair of green Chucks are exchanged for a pair of garish yellow, blue and orange bowling shoes in which Kate handles very gingerly on her way to the lanes.

"Hello Jamie!" She greets as she walks down the micro set of stairs to the chairs and lane. Kate drops her shoes on the floor and then sits down. Before she can put on the shoes, they have to be disinfected. It would take a mathematical genius to figure out how many people have been in these size eights but Kate doesn't have to be a genius to know that they have to be covered in germs. Ick.

"This is an awesome idea." Kate opens her tote and takes out a mini bottle of Lysol and starts spraying her shoes.

Jamie waves to Shard and Kate.

"Howdy, girls. You can't get much more incognito than a rented-out bowling alley, so I figured this spot would be good.."

He spots Kate's disinfectant.

"..You brought your own Lysol?"

"Well, yeah. Do you have any idea as to the number of feet that have been in these shoes?" She nearly shudders because she's almost certain that none of the bowling establishments take much care in cleaning them.

The kicker isn't that she's brought her own Lysol. The kicker is that after she's done spraying her shoes, a wet-wipe is taken out so she can clean her hands afterwards. Oh yeah, she's a neat freak.

A brief gust of chilled air sweeps in as the Bowling Ally doors swish open. Poised in the entrance stands a statuesque beauty. She wears red leather pants with matching high-heeled boots, a Happy Tree Friends baby-T, and a large coat that looks like it could have--at one point--been a Polar Bear.

Yes, Monet Saint-Croix is back.

Kate holds up her arm, her palm splayed to Jamie as if to say, talk to the hand. She doesn't deny her nerd status because she's keeping out an extra wet wipe for her bowling ball.

"That... is so weird." She remarks, watching Jamie absorb his clone.

She stands and leaves her chair behind to go and select her ball. Kate is about to pick up a green ball when the doors swing open. She turns her head and looks. About the only thing she admires are the shoes. She's not wearing anything so outlandish. Kate's just wearing a pair of dark jeans with a green sweater and a white shirt worn underneath. She's stylish but not over-the-top, preppy even.

With a shrug of her shoulders, Kate opens the wet wipe and uses it to disinfect her ball before picking it up.

Jamie puts on a happy face, pushing the look of disbelief off of his features, and stands, waving to Monet.

"Welcome back, M - glad you could make it to our little soiree. Bowling might be a little blue-collar for you, but I think you'll get the hang of it.."

He nods to the others. "You may have met Kate already, and you know Jubilee. And that's Shard. She's an ex-hologram from the future."

Shard isn't sure which one of them was being called a nerd. It's not like Kate has the corner on nerdiness in the room, after all. So she merely raises an eyebrow at Jamie and goes back to putting her shoes on, making note of the names that he gives.

When her name comes up, she raises her hand and waves to the others. "Hi. It's a pleasure and all that."

At least it's a bowling alley and not a... club... or something else with dancing. Jono would call that a torturous and barbaric initiation ritual, so he's lucky in that respect.

The various duplicates take a few seconds to grok with. Looks like it's going to be an interesting night from the 'crowd'.

One of the Jamies wanders over, extending a hand. "Jono Starsmore, right? Nice to meet you."

"Jono?" Monet asked in recognition. His arrival was a surprise (to her, anyway), though not an unwelcome one.
