An Infestation of Trolls

Oct 21, 2007 20:42

A little girl managed to make her way past all the security the mansion had to offer. Mostly empty, it seemed there was no one there to make much of the two trolls that had appeared where 'Jeeves' and 'Com Woman' had become something much more interesting. Monsters he remembered from their original incarnation ( Read more... )

Grendel snorted, not making much of a move, but there was something hungry in his gaze. He held up the the book, like he wasn't sure what to make of it.

Grendel's mother growls. "I protect my child, Ancient One," she snarls. "Command us at your hazard... but if you request this of us, we may pay back our debts."

"I know you do, Mother. As all good mothers should," Loki said, "But in here, there could be a great deal of threats to the two of you. Out there... out there there are people to hunt. A city at your beck and call," the little girl floated off the ground, so she could look Grendel and Grendel's mother in the eye. Loki took the book.

"I have given you a second life, other than my one favor, this world is yours."

"Mother," Grendel growled, his voice deep and grating, "We can hunt again."

No, it doesn't take much to keep him happy. The taste of human flesh and the snap of human bones, the scream of human men and human 'heroes.' That is all the Grendel needed.

Grendel smashed his way out of the Avengers mansion. The puny body that had been transformed to hold him offered no extra strength than what he had normally. When the front gate was smashed down the world Grendel beheld was a very different than the one he left behind.

Metal looking monsters ran up and down the streets as people - tasty people walked up and down unafraid. Well, he seemed to be making the metal monsters on the road hit each other.

"What is...?" he growled in Norse, walking up and pulling a door off one of the metal monsters. Hey, there were people in these things! Of course, the one in this metal thing ran away screaming before he could grab him. But this would make hunting a good deal more interesting.

Grendel was stalking the streets.

This could not be allowed to continue.

The Black Panther is busy analyzing the threat, from a rooftop nearby. His kimoyo card activated, accessing a database of possibilities.

He will not engage until the threat is properly assessed... unless he must act immediately to save a life.

Another Avenger who happens to be nearby has a less restrained demeanor - charging forward to point accusingly at Grendel.

"Ho, villainous troll! Stand down, or face the wrath of the Lion of Olympus!"

Hercules stands ready for battle.

Grendel grins savagely. A "hero" of the day.

"I will use your bones to pick your meat from my teeth!" he declares arrogantly...

then the beast charges, picking up the empty car as he does so, swinging it down to crush Hercules with it.

Heroing was hard work.

No, really.

Hard work.

Eric was sore in places he didn't know he _had_. He was bruised, tired, thirsty, and looking forward to nothing so much as a gallon or two of water and a couple of hours in one of the Avengers hot tubs before he shifted back and went home for the night.

Maybe he'd crack open a tall cold one. Or give Thor's mead another try. Stuff was potent as hell but it did give one _fine_ buzz.

He was entitled to a good buzz. Not too much - he had to work tomorrow - but a nice buzz would be just the thing to wrap up the day with.

It's Miller time.

He touched down roughly in front of the Mansion, let the security system know he was there, and opened the front door.

"Hi, honey, I'm home!" he called out by sheer force of habit.

Loki quickly shot a glance over that way while dealing with the overly inquisitive human. Good, the one touched by his 'dear' brother was here. That was one target. One out of three. He had been following this one for awhile now, curious. It wasn't often Mortals were touched with a God's power.

Now he just needed his brother and that soot-haired wench to make their appearance to tango with his special popup book.

At least his magic book was in the 'child's' backpack. When Thunderstrike entered the mansion he'd see it looked like it had been busted out of. In fact, there's a troll fight going on near the front yard. Idiot Greek vs. Idiot Troll. They were evenly matched physically, which was most likely the mental case as well.

"You know of whom I speak," he assumes. "Powerful sorceress capable of monumental feats of wizardry for the sake of her son Modred."

A hunch.

"A human male, with no trace of bovine influence."

Please, the only thing Morgan Le Fey was capable of was occasionally wiping her son's ass. These people had no appreciation of fine art! This was years in the making, it had taken years to track down the souls of these three monsters! Years to make the book which had to be have paper made out of the World Tree itself ( ... )

Cap heard about the situation on the radio, and is immediately rushing back to the base, concerned that he didn't hear anything from Peggy. Normally, she alerts them about situations like this.

Circling overhead on his skycycle, he sees T'challa and hails him over the com.

"Panther. Cap here. Sitrep?"

T'Challa had not failed to take note of the ravens, and this provided a rather concrete clue as to the villain behind this.

In fact, he waved to the ravens as he attempted to track the little girl through the crowds. Difficult with all the conflicting scents, but he is still determined to try.

"The Grendel and his mother have been released upon us, Captain," he responds into his comm unit. "I believe it is Loki's doing. Is Thor available?"

Loki darted through the crowds, he had to keep a nice clear view of the chaos here. When Idiot Brother and Black Haired Wench arrived he would need a line of sight to do any sort of incantation on Sif.

Which he planned to do. And he was not ditching that plan on account of some 'heroes.' He would've done an animal form once out of sight but the problem with that was you couldn't incant. And shifting form would be too obvious. Mortals were idiotic and stupid but they weren't blind.

The ravens see all. As such, so does the All-Father.

An almighty fist clenches, and Odin rises from his throne.

"So. Once more, my son dabbles in his misguided mischief, unleashing more than he shall be able to control."

Instantly, his voice speaks into the God of Thunder's mind.

"Thor. The All-Father commands your presence!"

His father has never had the best of timing, but no matter that he was enjoying some long delayed, much needed time with his fiance', Odin is not one to be ignored.

"Mine father hast summoned, and as e'er, so I must hie to his presence." he says, apologetically.

"Entreat Lady Sif to accompany you," comes Odin's call.

"Midgard once more requires aid."

"Did thy father say why he has summoned thee?" Sif asked. The recent time they had spent together had been nice indeed. She was mildly surprised it had lasted as long as it did.
