Eva the Dating Sim... never saw that one coming.

I had a surprise a few days ago, and I went back to B&N to make sure it really existed. It did, and I bought it. It is now sitting on a little bureau next to me.

It is the first manga volume of Neon Genesis Evangelion -- Angelic Days, or as I call it, Neon Genesis Evangelion -- the Dating Sim!"

Is that amusing or what?!

I kid you not, it has the look and feel of a dating sim. At the very least, I'm pretty sure it has the look and feel of one, since my knowledge of dating sims is limited to watching anime based off of them. But seriously, it really does feel like it. Shinji is the main character (of course). He was already pretty passive, so that makes him prime dating sim lead material, but he's less annoying in this alternate universe. Asuka is the Childhood Friend character type. I liked her in the original, and I like her in this one. Rei Ayanami is the Mysterious Transfer Student character type. I like her a lot in this one. She doesn't act all quiet and sullen; in fact, she is uber-genki, although still very shy. Misato is, of course, the big-breasted homeroom teacher. And Ritsuko Akagi is the freaky school doctor/nurse who says creepy things to Shinji.

I won't say anymore about it now, but it might be worth buying if you liked the original anime and if you wanted to see what Hideaki Anno would've liked to have done... i.e., Eva without the depression.

alternate universe, parody, evangelion
