I'm curious, did it ever mention anywhere exactly where this show is set? It sounds like typical Latin American Takarazuka angst but with a Portuguese twist, and I feel like Brazil doesn't really fit the whole colony thing. ^^;
Glad Remi got something with substance, but still disappointing to hear about Toyoko. Considering they thought she was prominent enough to get a sayonara show, this doesn't seem like much of a sendoff.

Also: the name "Angelita" is the dimunitve of Angela, but in Spanish. So could be anywhere, since the only non-Spanish-speaker is Brazil...
I'd bet Cuba, anyway, since it was one of the last countries to declare independence and the clothes make it seems it comes from 1900-1910...

Ps2: I think Martina might be right. LOL! The clue is this name: "Mísia". In Portugal, this name belongs to a veeeeery famous "fado" singer. It can be common in Portugal. [But I still don't understand why Joaquin ends with n, if in Portuguese, the correct would JoaquiM and the Angelita, à la Spanish. =p]
*remember Nova Bossa Nova and try to don't be picky* Despite some "revue effects (like overreaction and songs in Spanish, for example)", I'd say Nova Bossa Nova is quite accurate in some points. And that's what made me so amused with this show. LOL!

And not only actual, but also cool names. All those names are common in Portugal, but also in Brazil. Like Monica, José (commonest name here, together with João - Joseph and John, respectively)... To be perfect, they just needed a Maria, which is the commonest female name.
BUT... Why have a Maria when you can have a Mísia (ッミシア)? *Q*

Yumesaki Nene (Monica): I rather liked Nene’s character. Monica was more mature than the average musumeyaku heroine and seemed to be quite intelligent. These days, that’s enough to make me happy. -> Make two of us! <3
What made me happy about this character was that Chie finally got to play a slightly more mature role. -> Glad to read this! \o/
Shiiran and Renta. LOLOLOLOLOL!
I feel I'll watch this show and rewind the dorky parts until I get sick of it, taking tons of screencaps for tons of dorky icons. xD
Oooon the other side, I worried about Otoha Minori... By reading your report, it seems Wakaba got the 3rd biggest musumeyaku role. And I wonder if it means Minori lost her chance... *ponders*
Otoha Minori was quite invisible in this show and I did wonder if that meant anything. But as it's a Masatsuka show, a lot of people were sadly underused, so I don't think it means anything.
