there is definitely a point where safety precautions cross the line between being protective and being what we need protection *from*. The more I hear, the more I believe that.
We reached that point shortly after 9/11. This is not the line. The line was waaaaay back there. I doubt this will even wake up most of the sheep, but I'm hoping.
too true. The line got moved in increments starting in 2003, but they were small enough to be subtle. This is more of an obvious jump. I hope people wake up, too. Granted, I lost my marbles a few times after 9/11 with the Patriot Act and the "spy on your neighbor" policies that were more than a little of both McCarthyism and the things happening in Germany in the late 20s/early 30s. Seriously Lost-My-Shit all over my boyfriend, who tried to calm me down telling me "no no, it's not that bad, don't worry about it so much." :|
As far as the hoping they are being sued, there's actually a possible suit against a man who refused both the physical search and the backscatter scanner, was escorted out of the airport by TSA, and TSA is now claiming that he left "without permission".
I plan on turning the discomfort train right back on them. I have to fly in December and will have to work out a way to have half a stiffie going on when it's my turn. "Go ahead- check for a weapon! I insist!"
