Live, from Istanbul...
So now I've been here a week. Leaving tomorrow. The big report of the trip will have to wait a while, if I write it, and it will probably be written a bit at a time and be published over a few weeks. At least I have some notes for it. Right now I have a cold (meaning I find it a bit hard to concentrate), and other things I should be doing if I'm going to sit in a hotel room. I'm just writing this now for two reasons: 1) The whole "Live, from Istanbul..." thing is a bit too good to pass up, and 2) following the rules I've set up for this journal-thingie I have to post something on Sunday if not earlier, and I think I can be more effective with those "other things I need to be doing" once I'm in Sweden, if for no other reason than being closer to my deadline. Those are the reasons. Them and procrastination.
(Our three weapons are...) So now I guess I should try some reporting, or just word-spewing a la
my earlier post of a similar name. Or maybe just some background on how I ended up in Istanbul. That part, at least, is easy. A while ago my parents mentioned they wanted to take my sister and me on a vacation, paying for everything. This of course makes me feel very spoiled (probably quite rightly so) and there had been some previous discussion of whether I should go with my girlfriend to her family in Northern Sweden, but in the end this was an offer I couldn't refuse. (By the way, mom and dad, if you're reading this: Thanks!!!) Suggestions were tossed around during the following weeks, and it turned out Istanbul was an idea everyone liked.
Now you have the background. I'll have to return to you with information on how the actual trip turned out in about a week. My services (most immediately of sister-waking) are required...
