Bird Behavior

Watching birds is normally not my thing, I focus instead on insects, small mammals, spiders, and things like that.  Recently, however, I have just sort of observed birds more, just looking at the ones I happen to be near.

Today I was in my back yard doing some general chores on a very nice sunny and fairly warm day for late November.  I heard ( Read more... )

I love to watch squirrels and chipmunks and ducks and geese and spiders and such, too. But, I especially love to watch birds. They're forever linked to magic, in my mind. (It happened after I read "Johnathan Strange and Mr. Norrell", I believe.)

And, ravens are by far my favorite. Unfortunately, there aren't any around here. Which is a shame, really. For, I'd point and giggle to myself, and think that Edgar Allan Poe was present.

I do that a lot. Kind of make sense, but not really, I mean.

I guess ravens live around here, but I am not sure I could tell one apart from a crow (of which there are many around here!).

Crows and I am sure ravens are so smart. I love looking into their dark eyes and wondering what they are thinking about! :)

I can't tell a raven from a crow, either. But I'm fairly sure there aren't tons of ravens flying around here. Therefore, I tend to think I see mostly crows. And, crows are snazzy, in their own right.

Just saw a couple of them a few seconds ago, actually. I thanked them for making me giddy, with a curt nod in their direction. They're not so common that you see them all the time. Therefore, it's a moment of happiness, when you do catch them.

that's cute :)

whenever i see a tiny bird, i think it's a finch. i think all birds are finches, unless they are pigeons, doves (which i think are pigeons), boy bluebirds, or boy cardinals. anything else is a finch to me. lol.

Hey, if it's a finch to you, it's a finch to you! ;)

We have ample supplies of ravens in the fields not far from where I live. They are all taking off at the moment and leaving for.. I'm not sure where, but they gather in particular fields and then leave at sunset. And make a phenomenal noise!

We have a robin red breast all the year round in our garden. Apparently they are very territorial - like black birds. But the birds that have really become numerous lately are doves. They seem to chat to each other, with a variety of "coos".. We live quite near to a wild bird sanctuary, so we get some unusual occasional visitors too.
