This reminds me how much I miss being outdoors in the country...the only bugs I get to see these days are flies and cockroaches. ;)
I think I know those wasp-flies -- they're really neat!

Thank you, it was really neat! Hope you can get some time in the country this summer and get in some good "insect time"! :)

This is where you are more of a bug nut than me. If anything wasp-like landed on my hand, I'd have more of the "Aargh! Get off me!" reaction. However, I remember some very traumatizing bee stings as a kid.

I hear what you are saying about bee stings...

I guess I am lucky to not have too bad a reaction to bee stings, and to trust that the insect has the "good sense" to not sting if I am not threatening it. Most wasps will not give you a thought if you are not too near their nests. And I guess I figure if something lands on me, it is just looking for a place to rest....

But I totally sympathize with you, and respect how you feel.

It's actually funny, because after reading this comment, I had a recollection of "saving" the flute section from a bee last year. The bee was flying around the field where we were marching, and a group of the girls started screaming. I just went, "OK, come on Mr. Bee. Let's go over here." and he followed me to the endzone. Maybe it's bees that don't scare me as much as big wasps. Yellow jackets I don't like, but those things are just mean.
