I am on the fence about the new Stephen King book. Let me know if it's any good.

I'll admit the apparent religious overtones of the book are giving me pause, but I'll still try it.

For me, every election is a paycheck. I work the poll. It's a 15 hour day (NJ polls are open 6AM to 8PM with about 45 min setup before and 15 min cleanup after), but it's just a one day job for $200. Last year was unusual: 4 work days due to primary, general election and 2 special elections because a senator died.

Most of the poll workers are retirees who appreciate a little extra "poker money", but they all have the stamina to put in the full day. Never underestimate the will power of old geezers.

Some of my coworkers volunteer to do poll related work on Election Day. I do not know about the pay for poll workers in Arizona, other than we forfeit it as we are government workers and are compensated for the time off through paid vacation time.

I vote in every election. I was brought up under the understanding that one has no right to complain about the government if one forfeits their choice by not voting when they are eligible to. When I was living in Tennessee and working for a railroad museum there, one couple who volunteered there happened to be the precinct captains for the precinct where I was registered. They always said "we'll see you at the polling station on Election Day, won't we?" They cared not how one voted as long as they knew that you made the effort to inform yourself about the issues and participated. There were some times that we agreed to disagree on things.
