NINE souls » so many things at once

[vocalized, eerily calm.]

Capell... Faize requires your assistance. You'll find him where the village meets the forest.

[action]

[Martel bursts back into the house, looking around.]

Mother? Mother, where are you!? I must speak with you...

Martel! Where have you been?

I am neither the Martel you loved nor the Martel that you rejected. In such lies the freedom.

What are you?

[Almost gleefully amused.]

I'm free, Yuan.

...

But that's not the answer you're seeking, is it?

The weight of so many lives, so many souls inside me, it is gone, yet I feel no loss. I am strong, I am fast.

I am not certain what I am, in words, but... I could show you, if you'd like.

... Yes, show me. I'd like to see this.

[This is going to be a recipe for trouble, right here.]

The morning draws near...

You shall see me at sundown, Yuan.

[Are we really gonna do it? 'Cause that could possibly get volent, when she's in this condition.]

[Sadly, I don't think he'd pass this opportunity up. But he's been Tales-playabled, so there's a chance Martel will have to work though little obstacles like his HP before she can get his guard down enough to do actual harm.]

I'll be waiting.

[When night falls, she's on her way. It's back in the direction of her own house, that much she knows, and when she gets closer she can locate his house by scent alone. And soon she's in front of his house. She turns the knob to open the door, but it won't open, even if it's unlocked. Little does she know, vampires can't enter uninvited.

So she steps backward, into the moonlight, and over the journals:]

I am here.

[It's only good thing Martel can't enter the house, really. Zoisite would throw a fit. Being careful not to wake his housemate, Yuan makes his way to the front door. He knows there's something seriously wrong with Martel, which is a thought he's going to have to keep in mind during this entire encounter. He also knows there's a chance he may need to subdue her somehow, possibly with force.

With one last deep breath, he opens the door and steps into the night air. He'll meet Martel's eyes, but won't extend a greeting just yet, instead waiting for her to make the first move.]

[Little does he know that he might not be strong enough to subdue her, in this condition. As he comes out, she smiles that same slow smile, a rather eerie one in person. She meets his gaze and holds it, something she'd not be able to do before Mother had freed her.]

Yuan, why so serious?

[ooc: In no way was that a TDK reference, I swear. I tried to think of a word to replace 'serious'...]

[That eerie smile definitely indicates a problem. But what? Is it just a simple personality change or is there more to it?]

Because this is no time for me to be running away.

[This is amusing, though she can't quite place why.]

On the contrary... This is the perfect time for you to be running away.

[The benefit of this experiment is that the second Martel tries to touch him, Yuan's weapon will immediately appear in his hand for the initiated battle. The downside would be that Martel could see his health bar and know exactly how much more he'd have to endure before he's down for the count.]

For what reason?

[She doesn't answer that. Instead, he gaze wanders across the ground, almost absently.]

I'd almost forgotten... You always run away, nowadays. From me, at least. [She glances up at him now, meets his gaze again for the punchline.] But I suppose after four thousand years, love isn't quite good enough for you, is it?

[Yuan's insides are practically squirming with guilt at that. But he just keeps telling himself these words aren't Martel's. Not just because of whatever effect the experiment's had on her, but because this woman is in essence not the girl he loved.]

... It's not like you to beat around the bush this much.

Ah, I almost forgot. You wished to know what I have become, in the few days since Mother set me free.
