FIFTY-SEVEN souls » a futile attempt to cook

[ Sometime this evening, the distinct smell of burnt baking wafts out the kitchen windows of house 8 (which is wide open to vent, because good lord do blackened cupcakes smell). Martel's emerging from the house with a tray of gross black objects, looking slightly dejected but somehow determined ( Read more... )

[Seeing Martel burying smelly things in the front yard makes Saleh curious. While he's not one to pry into other people's affairs, pleasantries are always in order.]

Good day, Miss Martel.

'Afternoon, Saleh. [She looks up long enough to offer a smile, then continues digging. The hole's not quite deep enough yet.]

[The sage casually wanders over to her, torn between the subjects of her digging or the message in the sky. Eventually, he chooses the latter, as the former seems to be more personal.]

Would you happen to know what the message above is referring to?

Not a clue. I was hoping you might, actually.

[ Cooro's coming home a little late, today. With the writing in the sky, the mushi, and the possibility that his ear is still in the works of having the Un removed, he's been staying out later the past few days. He'll catch sight of her in the front yard as she's staring at the sky. ]

Martel, do you see it, too?

fff 'mushi' went way over my head. What is it? martelandmany June 16 2010, 18:17:51 UTC
Do some people not?

The Un eats sound. It lives in the ear, but I think his is gone now. His thread just wasn't done yet lilblackfeather June 16 2010, 18:19:37 UTC
I dunno... I guess they can.

and that's what 'mushi' is? martelandmany June 16 2010, 18:21:13 UTC
I wonder who put it there... It looks a bit flamboyant to be the work of the scientists.

[Not long after Martel's disposed of the 'cupcakes', Yuan leaves the house to join her in the front yard. His gaze strays to the sky for a moment. Looks like the stars are still spelling out that nonsense.

He shakes his head faintly, before walking up beside Martel.]

[She'll wrap an arm around his back in greeting.] The house must smell terrible, now. [She sounds two parts apologetic, one part amused.]

[A faint smile tugs at Yuan's lips and he wraps an arm around Martel's shoulder to hold her closer. He can't help but be amused at the situation.]

I opened the kitchen window. It should air out soon enough.

[There's a short silence, then:] I'm going to learn, Yuan. Just you watch. [Yes, you can consider that a threat. That's not how she meant it, but promising more cooking abominations is hard to be interpreted any other way.]

[That scent is enough to lure Regal (who had been out for a walk) over to find out just what died. "What died," from the looks of it, seems to be a tray full of... were those supposed to be cookies? It's hard to tell.]

You might wish to speak to someone at the repair shop about fixing your oven.

[Too bad he doesn't know that Cid is gone.]

[A dry smile.] It's not my oven at all.

I see... I would be lying if I said I had never overcooked something myself, especially with these new ovens. I'm still getting used to how much time they require to cook things properly.

Were you not aware? I-... [Wait. Should she even bring that up? He'd been so worried at the time...] I've not been able to cook properly since they returned me to life.
