I enjoyed this story so much, and on myriad levels. This one sentence is golden: “They want their pets, and the rest of us can go hang.” You've captured the feeling and the writing style of the Silm and UT, but you've kept it modern as well, as one can imagine the Men and Elves using in their own voice- ie: not Tolkien's. What a gift you have for that! The other element that I found so compelling in this is how you cover eons of time without glossing over it, nor making the observation of that time at all tedious. I think this is why I've been so leery of writing much Silmfic, and never from the POV of Elves- well, only once. But the entire story took place within maybe 20 Mannish years, so a very finite period of time ( ... )
