I was going to write about my other cat, Balthasar, today. But election and politics season is here, and I'm going to write about that for today and tomorrow. I couldn't ignore it even if I wanted to, which I don't.

Good for you! I know it isn't easy when you know people you love or respect disagree, but I think that it helps sometimes to talk about it :)

So glad you posted!

Some other rights:

Privileged communication
Conjugal visits in prison, and possibly other settings
Automatic legal parenthood of any child born in the marriage (I'm sure this one will drive some lawyers wonky soon)

I don't think "civil unions" come with those rights.

And I've yet to see any explanation of why "civil unions" shouldn't be "marriages"... except for religious ones.

Don't forget that a lot of states are scrambling to enact new adoption laws to prevent "singles" from adopting, then pairing those with amendments to block marriage rights. I guess "protect the children" is a better rallying cry of bigotry than an actual plan of action. :(

In Florida, the danger is Proposition 2. So if anyone's down here in the Sunshine state, make sure to keep an eye on that one too.
