The television may own my weeknights, but my weekends belong to the theater, darlings!

Friday, I went to see L'arnacoeur (Heartbreaker) in lieu of The Romantics (which, I didn't hallucinate.. the ticketing guy told me that it had been on the schedule, and was pulled last minute with no explanation that he'd heard, so, poop.), and it was awesome. I ( Read more... )

Ooh, I'm glad you liked L'arnacoeur! I did too, which is surprising because I rarely like romcoms. Well, I don't like American ones. Maybe that's the difference. >___> I was determined to hate Vanessa Paradis because, you know, she stole my man and all, but then I watched La fille sur le pont and listened to Divine Idylle and I was like "...CRAP, SHE'S AWESOME TOO." And Romain Duris is in, like, EVERYTHING these days, and it's awesome. They were very cute together, and I didn't stop laughing nearly the entire time. ...But it did need moar Andrew Lincoln, that's true. Despite liking it, I still had the same problem that I have with many romcoms, which is that a perfectly nice guy gets screwed over in the interest of the new love interest. I know they're meant to be absurd and all, but I felt bad for him. :\ Still, it was great.

(But: was it not hilarious/awkward that Dirty Dancing was such a big part of it, when Jennifer Grey was engaged to Johnny before he met Vanessa...? I thought of that halfway through and was like LOL WHOOPS, ( ... )

That bothered me a bit too, especially since they went to such great lengths to show that he really was a good guy. A lot of movies at least pay some lip service to that bit of ickiness by shoehorning in something that makes the nice guy less nice (like he's a workaholic or somesuch), but no. Lincoln's character's worst offense wasn't even that he was boring, but that she would be bored with him. But it was such a sweet movie in all other regards, I couldn't stay too mad at it for that. I justified it by thinking that really, it saved him some heartbreak in the long run. ;)

I think I'm going to have to go into Duris's back catalog some here, because I crushed on him so hard in Paris, and loved him in this, but that's all I've seen from him. Any recommendations? (Preferrably available through Netflix? :D)

(And ACK!! I didn't realize that! Haha, wow. Awkward turtle indeed!!)

Yeah, really! I guess we're supposed to assume he gets with the crazy nympho friend at the end, but that's...not really much of a consolation prize. O____o I guess it was about taking a risk and not being with someone 'safe,' but you did feel bad for the guy. But yeah, it's a romcom; you can't take those parts too seriously. ;)

I didn't love Paris overall, but I did love him, as well as Juliette Binoche. ♥ Hmm...well, there's L'Auberge espagnole, where he's a student and really cute & dorky, and then Molière, which is a bit more grown-up. I think they're both on Netflix. ;)

I loved parts of Paris. It didn't quite come together as a whole, but there were characters and moments that made it worthwhile (and his was one of them for me).

And thanks for the recs! I've added those to my queue!

I realized this weekend when I watched Dancing with the Stars (BECAUSE JENNIFER GREY, COME ON!) that Dirty Dancing is one of my absolute favorite movies ever.

It's great that you're able to enjoy the theater on the weekends!

She was AWESOME. I actually CRIED when they showed part of her first practice. She broke down when she learned she'd be dancing to "These Arms of Mine." She talked about missing Patrick and I pretty much lost it. I was a weepy mess. She was great and I can't wait to see more of her. Plus Margaret Cho is on it! I am just watching for them. I've never watched this show before though. I find it pretty cheesy...

I'll definitely watch L'arnacoeur!

I am so glad you loved Easy A. I thought it was fantastic, but the point about her peers is spot-on. It's sad, but I guess it worked to make her an outcast.

I think she could have been an outcast still with just the one friend. They let her family remain supportive still, so they could have let a BFF squeak through too. That was a little distracting to me.

Aww, Easy A looks really cute. But I can't stand Amanda Bynes. D:

Teehee, well, you're supposed to hate her character, so you'd be all set to go there then. :D And she's not in it that much. I wouldn't let that keep you from it.

Low side ponytails are fine... but if you even think about a high side pony I will be there to stalk you. :)

I want to see Easy A. I adore Emma Stone. I loved Zombieland and still do every. time. I. watch. it. I also want to see The Town.
