Haha, it's never too soon for the love that can only be born of mutual admiration of that which is UNDENIABLY AWESOME. XD Heh, sadly, I'll be kind of a broken record on High Fidelity for a bit here (no pun intended)... it's just applicable for so many of these!!

The Beach soundtrack is sooo excellent. The use of Moby "Porcelain" is incredible. Whenever I wonder why the hell I own and love The Beach, I just think of that scene and that music. And I definitely agree with High Fidelity and Vanilla Sky as well. All of Cameron Crowe's soundtracks are pitch perfect. (Elizabethtown is my personal favorite.) For my own answer to this meme, I completely forgot to include The Matador. Have you seen that? All right film, IMPECCABLE soundtrack! It literally is a mixtape.

"Porcelain" really is brilliantly selected.. that song always brings me to that movie, no matter how wintery it is outside. :D But I love "The Beach" pretty unconditionally. It's imperfect, particularly towards the end, where it takes the turn towards OMG druglordz, but the first 2/3 own my soul.

I haven't seen The Matador, I don't think! I think it's one that I've almost watched about 80 times (hence the slight uncertainty), but never quite made it for whatever reason. I'll add it to my Netflix queue!

I agree that the best soundtracks are ones that are cohesive. That doesn't mean that they can't be eclectic in terms of genres and artists represented, but they all work together to truly represent the film in question. Too many soundtracks just throw in random pop songs with very obvious lyrical content. I think Tarantino is one of my favourite directors for choosing musical selections that really represent and enhance the story, but Crowe is another great choice (Almost Famous ♥).

Arg! I can't believe I didn't include any Tarantino for this question. That's a major omission!! Because he does really do that. I think they don't always make for the best albums, when taken out of the context of the film, but in context, he really is at the top of his game there. And he is really the master of taking the totally eclectic and making it totally cohesive in the context of the film. The choices are so perfect that they almost feel made just for the film in question.. that movie then owns that song from that scene, no matter where else you hear it, and no matter where you'd heard it before.

I think Jackie Brown is my favourite of his, soundtrack-wise, but all of them are just so perfect.
