I'll go for Hakuba, because I was originally going to pick someone out from PC (here's someone else who likes the series) but someone else already did one. Plus, Hakuba's not a main character.
Ahh, Saguru-chan. *pries furious chibi-Hakuba off her skull* Right, then, let's see...
A) Aside from Icka's stuff, I think I fell in love with him reading "Scroll of the Dark Knight." Despite everything, he's willing to go along with Kid's stealing of the truth for Kenta's sake... it humanized him as much as calling Kid in Goldeneye did. I got fascinated by the difference between that and the arrogant face he always showed...
B) Best trait... He's got compassion, as "Dark Night" showed. He's also very very smart... it's kind of a tossup.
C) That arrogance, which hasn't been shot down yet quite as permanently as Shinichi's. Chipped a bit, but not shot down.
D) Of my published work, it might be "Nightmares," the first short I did. I have one called "Four Kings" I'm working on that gets more in-depth on his character, but... who knows when or if that'll be done.
E) Four Kings is the only planned thing, but there are various other ideas floating around that I'm sure will latch onto him eventually...
I've got to admit, the two fics that feature highest in my mind when I think of him are 'Nightmares' and 'Nerves of Steel'. The second mostly becuase it was one of my first DC fics ^_^; Four Kings looks to be interesting.. *keeps her beady eyes out*
I thought of Puck and Kaito before. The mischief and restlessness.
Regarding B, I wonder if he counts Nightmare's death as breaking that rule, even though he's not the one hurting Nightmare, of course. Especially after seeing the son weeping like that.
Four Kings is my major monster of a fic that I've been working on for two years, and is about half-done. So....
As for Nightmare, Kaito doesn't feel quite like he broke his rule, because he tried to save Nightmare... it hurts, though. More as a failure than an actual breakage of the rule.

As for Hakuba, Nerves of Steel is my absolute favorite as it really humanizes him. Plus, who can resist that classic cliffhanger-ish ending?
