Hello.

[Unlike others from his 'verse, Ben is not only relatively familiar with paper books, but with writing in them.  He's a little hesitant at first, in part because he's just realized that sensation in his right hand doesn't match sensation in his left, but produces an unremarkable cursive.]

My mentor’s name is Ben.  I don’t think he’d mind my ( Read more... )

Prosthetic? No way, you have a fake hand?! SWEET!

It's real enough, it's just more mechanical than the rest of me.

A robo hand?! EVEN COOLER!

[MOTHERFUCKING SQUEE]

At any rate, you might want to come down to Medical, have someone look at it. We don't have any prosthetic experts but once someone makes sure nothing biological is damaged, it'll be easier to focus on the mechanical.

Glad you approve.

My greeter suggested that. I've been having some issues with coordination, too, though I think those will clear up on their own. [They're more related to, you know, being disembodied for ~50 years.]

What kind of fees would they charge?

A prosthetic hand, eh...? I'm no expert, but if it's robotic, I can try!

I think all I need is for the fluid to be drained. If I damage the skin, I doubt it'll grow back, so I'm going see a medic about that part.

Still, if you wouldn't mind taking a look after, I'd be grateful.

Naturally. My name's Bridge, by the way, and welcome to the Sphere, Ben!

Thank you, Bridge.

Where should I find you?

Hello. Shall we call you Ben, then? You mentioned about the skin on the prosthesis growing back-do you mean it is organic? In any case, Genius is right, it is better to get it checked up in Wellspring.

It seems a little strange for now, but I'll get used to his name.

I don't think it'll grow back, actually. It's not enervated and the veins and such seem cosmetic.

All right. Thank you, Stellaris.

Most share that sentiment about names.

Ah, I see. It sounds as if you are able to move it, so am I right to guess the prosthetics interface with your nerve endings?

That's probably sensible.

I'd assume so. The skin and flesh have some connection to the mechanisms underneath, and those connect to a sort of cap halfway up my forearm. There's sensation, but it's of a different quality than with my other hand.

Strange is not a strong enough word to describe this place.

The medics on Wellspring Island are quite proficient at cleaning the cocoon fluid from hard-to-reach places. I am sure they will be able to help you.

I'm starting to recognize that.

Thank you.
