I just been told that the DVD versions of ep 4-6 have a few dialogue rewrites that make them fit in better with the way ep 1-3 were written. It'b be interesting to see what they changed, but they worked fine as they were, and they should have just made 1-3 fit with the pre-existing movies. I have no idea if the plot holes are in relation to 4-6 which might be fixed by the rewrites. I'll get around to seeing it in the theatre in a week or two. I'd prefer if it didn't suck, but I'll go see it anyway.
The FX were mostly up to the standards you'd expect. Oddly organic buildings and ships through most of the film, well done CGIs, good sound and a typical William's imposing score. The light sabers were a little too bright and dominated the screen (rather than the actual fencing match), but I'll forgive that. The lava was very well done. The cut from space to a VERY WHITE spaceship interior near the end was very abrupt and hurt the eyes. The inter-scene cuts were the typical, stupid starwars style (weird, quick fades).
I agree 100% on the lightsaber and white star cruiser comments; I'm glad to see that someone else thinks so, even if it's marphod. And the fades are based on the fades Kurosawa used in his films, so there you go. The man just loves him the Kurosawa. That, or an etch-a-sketch

My friends and I were, admittedly, laughing uncontrollably at most of the dialogue. And the screen wipes you mentioned. Good grief. The movie wouldn't really have been half bad, I thought, if the just showed the whole thing without actually letting anyone talk.
And YES, the lightsabers were far too bright in the fight scenes! It's almost as if that was done deliberately to disguise the rotten swordplay or something.
I must say though, I really enjoyed Ian McDiarmid's Palpatine. The "relative" subtleties of his delivery kept many of his scenes with Anakin alive, even if we already knew what he was going to say half the time.
And I thought the scenes when General Grievous when he opened up his can of whoop-ass were fun. Guilty pleasures, I suppose.
But you're right of course: This movie does not live up to its hype.

Actually? He was married, and is now divorced. So, maybe.
