we call this sort of thing at st olaf, we call it 'the bubble' and its pretty hard to escape
i make it sort of my goal to check cnn or bbc anytime i find myself checking facebook or some stupid celebrity gossip site
i dunno, my professors pretty frequently bring outside topics into class for us to discuss it seems to me, but i also try to make some of an effort
it helps if you have other peers who are on the pulse of certain types of news, for instance i think i heard about that finland shooting almost as it was happening because one of my friends keeps up on scandinavian news (not really much of a surprise at a lutheran school in minnesota, but still....)
Yeah my friend wrote a whole song about BYU being "the Bubble" I know nothing going on here. The fires in California, the shooting in Cleavland I had to hear by word of mouth, or msn news when I check my email. Even when the BYU student was missing at the beginning of the year I know nothing, I didn't even know they found her body until the next morning (morbid I know, sorry) Anyway, so yeah I know the feeling.
