Photobucket is shutting down free image sharing

I signed up with photobucket more than 10 years ago for their free account, which allowed to link and embed images anywhere on the net. I have used their service extensively both on livejournal and the forums I frequent. They have now changed their TOS. The only option to continue linking and embedding images from their site comes with price tag of ( Read more... )

Hopefully you can get a tarball of the images off the site.

Ridiculous amount of $US, almost as if they want to kill the service off...

I have all images on my hard disks ... somewhere. ;-) The only official way to get them off PB is by clicking through your albums and getting them image by image. neo has identified a somewhat easier way using wget, but it's still a hassle.

At that price tag, I guess they only want to keep former high tier customers, none of the freeloaders like myself. I would be surprised, if they are able to keep the intended customers, as those have to ask themselves how reliable a business partner is, who is willing to pull such an ill-communicated stunt. I myself can not complain, I feel sorry for their paying customers, though.

13 months later: They just announced a roll back after canning all the top level brass. A $2 a month plan is going to be available...
