Wandering through the night was Not a Very Smart Thing To Do ( ... )

A footstep resounded across the street. The barely-noticeable sound caused Fujin's ears to lightly perk up, and she warily stood in a defensive position. Narrowed eyes searched around the area, finally landing on a girl with a short-sleeved jacket. She was... familiar. The pang inside her returned with a vengeance, and Fujin dropped the stance. Finally dropping her pride, she raised her head and called out. "Hello...?"

Yuffie started visibly and almost knocked herself off balance [and, whoops, there went her headphone--] at the unexpected greeting; a strong kick aimed at the wall beside her sent her whirling around to face the opposite side where the sound had come from with a screech that sounded something awful, before she saw the flash of red-black coated plastic and steel falling and made an unanticipated extra step forward that almost made her stumble. But improvisation was her talent, if nothing else [and the daily encounters with lovely furniture that came a bit too close ensured that it was], and the misstep was righted with a quick hand bracing itself against the cement that was accompanied by a flare of pain [flesh and stone--gravel--was not very pleasant, her mind supplied in malicious sing-song] and a prickling jab as her spine and muscles protested the unwarranted movement and the awkward positioning they weren't used to ( ... )

Presently, though, she remembered what had caught her off-guard before; her laughter subsiding into quiet chuckles, she peered up through wisps of black with curiosity sparking in her eyes as she searched for the source of the words. Finding a blurry figure standing not too far off and concluding that they were the 'culprit', she gave a lopsided grin as she squinted at them, feeling a little more than a bit giggly for some odd reason; maybe this was what feeling drunk was like.

"Hi," she made a little waving motion with her right hand [using her left wouldn't really be all that smart, she thought as she internally nodded to herself, as then she would probably fall. And that would hurt--a lot, most likely.], thought it was a bit subdued from the usual extravagant movement she would have made due to the something clutched in her hand.

Oh, right. The headphone. But, there was something bugging her; the blur looked awfully familiar... Maybe she had seen the blur before ( ... )

Oh. Fujin suddenly became painfully aware of how pretty the carpet on the floor was. Well. That had been... unexpected, to say the least. Having been completely prepared for an utter rejection (and, to be perfectly honest, idly fantasizing about a joyous acceptance), Yuffie's rather bashful response had come out of the blue. And now Yuffie was watching him with a rather pretty blush across his face. Stop that, you're not going to get anything accomplished if you just stare at his face.

The next problem in replying lay in the fact that Fujin was, once again, painfully inexperienced in matters such as these. It had had no purpose, after all; why bother attempting to understand something which he had no desire to take part in? Now that hhe was faced with a situation in which they might have actually helped, Fujin was finding that any scholastic knowledge he may have had was completely and utterly useless. And so, unconsciously mirroring Yuffie's earlier speech, Fujin forced himself to relax slightly. "Umm." Lifting a hand and scratching ( ... )

The posture Yuu'd unconsciously--subconsciously, maybe?--taken was a little comforting, curled up without being winded by his knees pressing uncomfortably against his chest. [Then again, when had that position actually been all that cozy when he'd been female..? A jab here and a stabbing prick there from the occasional stray pendant, bleeding knees, red covering faint almost-gone scabs and barely-there scars, come from a time long past and no longer of relevance.]

He gave an almost imperceptible smile settle on his lips when he noticed muscles loosen in front of him, shaky and only half-there, but a smile nevertheless. The sound of soft laughter from the other was even nicer and more stabilizing for his fluttering thoughts, and what felt like an echo that only he heard was absently forgotten with an easy skimming-over, dark-colored laugh forgotten. But as it was, the thought--person, memory, his mind supplied with a teasing reach--wasn't keen on being left behind so quickly, too persistent to fade into the background for the ( ... )

"I- I- oh."

...Well, that had been unexpected. Yuffie had said... yes? As the mental reply he had had involved utter rejection - in that adorably nice way Yuffie had, yes, but still - Fujin was momentarily struck speechless. Staring down straight at the floor, eyes ever widening, Fujin breathed in, breathed out, breathed in one more time. And, exhaling, mentally thanked every deity that he had heard of for what had just happened. Yuffie had said yes Yuffie had said yes Yuffie had said yes! Struck by an uncharacteristic urge, Fujin had to take a moment and restrain himself from literally jumping with glee ( ... )

Yuu ignored his slightly higher-than-normal pulse with superb apparent indifference to himself as he wrung cooling water from the cloth grasped in his hand.

[This [a.k.a. superb apparent indifference] being as how he was attempting to coerce himself into believing the lie-façade he himself had set up, all for the purpose of confounding and misleading his inner thoughts, this [now referring to the attempt, rather than the SAI [Superb Apparent Indifference] that had been mentioned beforehand] being rather futile as it only ended up terribly confusing himself further rather than clearing up things, per se, through the scattering of his previous thoughts which may have led him to believe he was going through or feeling n which was incorrect and therefore misinterpreted, though the bewildering-attempt was rather destined for failure the moment it had been launched, anyhow.]

Well, slightly, if the aforementioned usually meant he could hear the th-thump of his heart resounding hotly in his head, and the faint sensation of a break in the ( ... )
