This piece goes far to remind me that "intertwined" is a synonym for "twisted."

This is the most perfectly apt reaction. Thank you so much for reading and taking the time to comment. I admired the optimism and comfort at the end of the piece by Suesniffsglue, which inspired this, but as you can see, I just wasn't there yet.

I remember that earlier story. It was very evocative, and made the reader almost feel bad for the nightmare. Here, we can tell that the narrator isn't good but it can't seem to help it. It's all part of its nature.

Yes! The nightmare had some sort of redemption at a point, but I am still struggling with anxiety and I am not sure she has a redemption story arc just yet. Though I'd like for there to be one.

I love Suesniffsglue! Sometimes darkness is just THERE, and can be so tangled up within us that it feels inescapable.

Precisely! I recently saw an illustrator who personified her illness in the most precious "monster in the forest" just wants love style. It really got me to thinking about those aspects of ourselves we deny and suppress.
