i know i really don't see the problem and to be honest things like this bother me more than the "big" political problems we have. it just seems so fucking petty for adults to be fighting over. i don't know i have never been a "christian" thinking person so it is hard to say where they are really coming from on this. can anyone refer me to the exact reason why we are suppose to be against this? does it say something specifically in the bible?
I was raised Methodist but have moved far, far away from it. I used to be a good little church girl, but then I grew up and started questioning it. Now I consider myself spiritual above all else. But my immediate family is still pretty religious, and a few of my long-time friends are. I have an old friend who won't even set foot in a bar - I'm pretty sure it's because she thinks only bad people hang out there. Her mindset of "the church" and people like her versus the evil, outside world and non-believers is pretty amazing in its ignorance. It's just too easy for some people to accept everything that's fed to them about the "right" way to live life, and never question it or consider other points of view.
i just read that link. it reads like a fairytale. that is what i truly think of all that.
my wife almost didn't marry me at one point because she too was brought up christian and could not accept that i would not "save myself" she finally came around and now is more outspoken against it than i.
i know. i'm sometimes disgusted by my own fortune of being a straight white male. i have friends and family who are homosexuals and i can't imagine how this makes them feel. they say it's no big thing but it would drive me nuts. it already does. and don't get me going on minorities and women's rights. the other night at dinner my dad and his friend were having a political conversation and it got to Hillary Clinton and the friend called her a bitch. I finally jumped in and asked for a reason and he had none. i would not let him drop it and finally he had to say "just because". so because she is a female she is not allowed to be a strong person it is fucking disgusting how far we have NOT come.

Why not just have civil unions for everyone, and if a couple wants to refer to it as "marriage" then let them do so.
