[Utter doom has managed to hold itself off for the past week, and so today is Katara's first day of school! She's excited and a little nervous, since she's never been to any sort of school before. While preparing and lecturing herself she jostles her journal.]

[Well Sokka doesn't have to wake up early for classes. He goes to the one he wants to. So after a few hours at the smithy, Sokka heads into the magic class early, ignoring anyone who happens to be there, and takes a seat in the back. The teacher isn't in yet, so he just kicks up his feet on the desk next to him, flips open a book on a more interesting subject (automobiles!), and picks at his teeth with a knife. Ladies and gentlemen, the model student.]

[After taking her placement tests that morning, Katara is able to attend the remaining classes. Entering the magic classroom, she spots her brother being his charming self. Will tiredness stop her from walking over and shoving his foot off the desk? No, but the knife in his teeth will.

So she is just going to stand there and loom over him for a moment. Her voice is disgustingly sweet.] This seat taken?

[He's about to snap at whoever it was talking to him... and then, wait. Katara? He removes the knife from his teeth and his eyebrows go up. But... he gets over that. Other people are watching.]

Not really, no. [He doesn't move his feet though, he's comfortable. And this bit about the combustion engine is really fascinating.]

Oh good. [And she shoves his feet off the desk. Because this is how younger sisters troll. GAWD, why so embarrassingly a slob, Sokka? She'll just be brushing the dirt off from the desk now. Ick.]

[Katara has never seen headphones before. Or - this person either. So he gets a wave and a sort of tentative] Hi!

[Those headphones make her CURIOUS. She takes a step closer, and glances around the room. But overall general nerves take priority.] Am I in the right place for new students?

[It isn't too long before the teacher herself arrives. Looks like a few students beat her to this class, but some of the others are probably taking their time, so it balances out for preparation beforehand.]

[Katara perks up when she sees Raine enter.]

Good morning, Raine! Or now that I'm a student, should I call you 'master?'

[Raine's a little distracted this morning, but she smiles when she sees Katara, and shakes her head a little at her question.]

Not at all. If you'd feel more comfortable using a title, however, most students just use 'Professor'.

[Poor Raine. D: Sadly, Katara has no idea about the mallynapping.]

It's right to show proper respect for your teacher. [And Katara bows slightly. Then she smiles.] We met a professor once! He was in charge of archeology at the university of Ba Sing Se. Did you teach at a university too?

[Terra's at school as usual, doing her best to be diligent and pay attention. She doesn't talk much during class because of that, but Katara's attendance is noted, and during break, she waves shyly.]

[And Katara recognizes Terra - during one of the lowest points in her life at Luceti, Terra had volunteered to help her by sharing her experience with the mallynappings. So when she sees that wave, Katara comes over to greet her.]

Hi! Terra, right?

That's right. I'm glad to see that you joined the school, too. What do you think of it, so far?

It's a lot to take in all at once. I've never been to a school before. But the teachers are all very nice, and most everyone else here seems to be too, so... [Katara shrugs.]
