Back to reality

We’re back! Had a cracking holiday - great company, terrific weather and Sea Palling is a lovely place. We were about three hundred yards from the beach, the town was out-of-season so there weren’t many people around, the beaches have won awards for their cleanliness and the sea was clear. I’d go back in an instant, but I wouldn’t want to be ( Read more... )

That beach really does look lovely. Glad you had a grand time! :)

Sorry to hear about Alison's news, but anything to do with the housing business will be the first to suffer: fingers crossed she finds a new job soon.

What really annoys me about the "credit crunch" is how it's really a recession yet the Powers that Be paint it up with an innoccuous phrase because recession is such a bad, bad word.

Cheers, Chris, on all counts!

I don't understand why we're continuing with the cc rubbish - we're in a recession. Apart from Alison's situation and the stupid, ongoing debacle of paying 20+% more for petrol that was refined well before this all started (plus the hike in food prices), I've begun to notice a slight difference on the roads. Maybe it's just me, but there definitely seems to be slightly less of my fellow commuters around.

yep, quite a drop in fuel purchasing apparently - there were more people on the bus these past few days!

Not at all surprised. Now we'll all discover if public transport really is all it's cracked up to be!

I like the first photo! and I assume the second will appear at some point in a story ... sand monsters! flesh eating crabs, sand eating crabs ........ could be fun!

Glad you had a good time, sorry to hear about Alison's job, hopefully something will turn up soon!

Looking forward to catching up tomorrow!

I like the first photo the more I look at it - it seems to capture something about us as a family! As for the stairs, it has occured to me that there's a story in there somewhere.

Fingers crossed, about Alison, it's just trying to keep everyone's spirits up at the moment.

Absolutely! It feels like ages since we last got together. I'll bring a CD of the Twinlakes pics.

What a lovely holiday! Love the pictures!

So sorry about Alison's job. It always feels like a rejection no matter how gently they do it or how much you may have anticipated it. I'm sure she'll find something else. She seems like she would be a wonderful employee.

I love Calvin and Hobbes, too! Have you ever seen Frazz? That comic reminds me quite a bit of the Calvin and Hobbes strips.

The stairway that goes nowhere reminds me of some things we see in Port Townsend. It's by the sea too (across from Seattle). It's all about shooting at enemy ships. I wonder if the stairs once led to a gun or a bunker or something.

Finished Bleak House. It was wonderful *sighing and floating up into the air with hands clasped under chin*

Thanks, Kim, for the kind words about Alison and the holiday pics. I've never seen "Frazz" before, thanks for pointing that out to me.

The thing with the steps could have been to do with the war, the coast around there is littered with pill-boxes and tank-traps. They also suffer flooding every now and again, so it might be that the beach has 'grown' over the steps.

Glad you enjoyed "Bleak House"!
