Canon and Fanon

Hello everyone!  =)

After reading copious amounts of fanfic, sometimes I get confused with which things are canon and which fanon.

So, I´d like to start a discussion on this topic.

What things or themes have you seen in fanfics that you are not sure if they are canon or fanon?

Example:

Canon
There´s beer and Mountain Dew in Mark´s fridge.

Fanon?
Red Bull

I'm pretty sure Justin Timberlake mentioned the three of them staying in a dorm together....

The Red Bull thing might have come from this quote, " probably the biggest thing that's ever been associated with Harvard was invented by one guy who sequestered himself away in a dorm corner. In the movie, Red Bull might not have been shown because of licensing issues.I don't know. Fanon vs. canon always gives me a headache.

I remember that quote. That´s why I thought there were some Red Bull cans in the movie, but I watched it several times and didn´t find any. That´s why I was confused.

It gives even more headache when it´s based on real living people. XD

Oooh, I love this post! My particular use of Red Bull has been because I have seen pics of real Zuckerberg with it, but I have a tendency to draw from the real people for backstory and details when we don't know those things about the characters.

I don't have anything to add in particular in regards to the subject at hand (though I feel like Andrew and Jesse living together has some sort of basis in fact? IDK), just that I love drawing on the real people for backstory, too. I love the idea of movie!Zuckerberg being really into classical history and being fluent in French. XD

I think there was one interview where Jesse said something along the lines of "in boston, we'd wake up and be the only people we knew in the whole world.."
not sure if its the same one where he then talked about Andrew having a girlfriend and not spending every waking moment with him or not, & i am supposed to be writing a paper so I can't look it up now, but that sort of implies they might have been living together?

haha, but yeah, I don't think there has been any real proof that they did

I remember that interview, but I thought it meant they were with the filming crew in Boston and Baltimore, and they were the only friends each other had in those cities. Like, they got along with the crew, but they weren´t that intimate to hang out and do fun stuff.

It´d be awesome if there was some kind of proof.

Jesse says all this within the first minute of this. Still doesn't prove that they lived together.

I saw that part when I got the DVD, but he could be refering to the other actors too, since he´s later talking about Andrew and the other guys going out without him.

So, basically, I´m looking for some statement like: "When we lived together in the same apartment, Andrew cooked for me", or something among those lines. =P

I thought Andrew mentioned that it seemed silly not to live together so they just shared an apartment/hotel suite penthouse thing?
