Oscar Thoughts

Jan 25, 2011 22:48

So, hi everyone!  I'm a kinda-lurker in this beautiful fandom (I never comment or write enough but, you guys, you make me puke rainbows!) and I have a thing for the Oscars.  :) In fact, they are probably my number one hobby.  And  here they are, intersecting with this fandom.  Anyway, they've been my hobby for many years.  I follow Oscar blogs, ( Read more... )

(film): reviews, (film): awards

I'd be eager to see that- I've been doing that myself this year and have a LOT OF OPINIONS.

somebody actually asked my mom and I what we thought of The Social Network this afternoon, and its chances for the Oscars, and my mom said, "I'll hold off on it because I know you're really opinionated about it."

and I said, "I have about a trillion opinions about it. I don't even know how they all fit in my head." so. i'm excited to do this.

a) MY USELESS KNOWLEDGE MAY FINALLY DO SOME GOOD?!?? :)

b) You mean like last year with Inglorious Basterds? ;) Um, so, it depends. The SAG is the largest voting block in the Academy, and last year they got 19 of the 20 acting nominees, which is how I knew that Andrew wasn't going to make it. They have A LOT of voting clout but they aren't the whole story. What I THINK is going to happen is that The Fighter is going to "pull off an upset" (insert boxing metaphor here) because it is a VERY actor-ly movie. IF that happens we'll see a ton of coverage about how NOW WE'VE GOT A THREE WAY RACE, bleeblah. However if The King's Speech wins here ... we are in more significant trouble than we expected. Oh, and TSN has very low shots here, because it is not an ACTOR-ly movie. BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN IT'S OVER ... yet.

Um, but more about that soon!!

Ugh, I hate it when 'actor-ly' stuff wins. You just know that when an actor has gained weight, lost weight, if the character had a disability in some way, *that* one will win. When it's probably a lot harder to do something that's only a bit different from yourself, your daily life, yet still convincingly another character. I mean, the point of acting is that people don't notice that you're doing it, meaning subtlety. But the awards always go to the people doing obvious theatrical stuff.

The award I'm really rooting for is adapted screenplay. Sorkin rules!

DO IT. *grins manically*

Man, I shall be biting my fingers off. I know Jesse has no chance of winning obvs, but the other categories...I so want TSN to win.

My fear comes from the articles I've read stating that TSN "has been losing its appeal", just like Inception. Unfair, unfair, unfair.

What?! Because they've been out longer? Do these people have no attention span at all? Or memory?

I knowww. Man. I'll cry if Fincher or Sorkin or especially the movie as Best Picture loses.
