While I will grant you that the story does evoke a lack of respect to the character, as someone else is taking over his life and reaping the benefits of it that Peter earned - I don't think it's fair to say that just because someone relates better to Otto compared to Peter makes them automatically a loser. I'd go so far as to say that the Peter fans who have given Slott death threats are the real "losers" in this case - and need locking up or psychological care, whichever is more appropriate.
That and if you wish to attribute "blame" for this story - you need to aim some of it at Axel Alonso (who is one of the best EiCs in Marvel History, not to mention proved himself over at DC before they became reboot happy), Tom Brevoort, Stephen Wacker, Ellie Pyle and DISNEY. They were all responsible for green-lighting this storyline.
And you also have to accept that Peter's creator, Stan "The Man" Lee, has also backed Slott's creative direction as shown here and here, where he helps advertise it
( ... )
The only thing I disagree with is that this isn't like the Spider-Marriage. Plus I don't see Peter being gone for long even though his body is still there.

I thought it showed an utter lack of respect for the character of Peter parker.
Then again, this is Slott who can only relate to losers and whom apparantly thinks that Otto Octavius is more relatable than Peter is.
