Essay: Admiring Martian Canals

This is some essaying I wrote circa 2008, posted at the request of sailorvfan10 .  It is a bunch of meta noodling revolving around Super Smash Bros, Fire Emblem, and some potshots at the Gundam Wing fanbase.  Not my best work, so feel free to ignore me.

Yeah, I did kind of boggle at my inbox this morning.

Y'know, I didn't even go into what the Ike/Marth shippers have done to the fandom, because that ship didn't even exist when I wrote that essay. It was all goddamned Ike/Pit back then.

I must admit I have a guilty pleasure for Ike/Marth, but Ike/Pit I never quite understood. At all.

I think that sums up Ike/Pit. And the less said about that pairing, the better. I won't say it's 100% crap, but it's at least 98% crap.

Ike/Marth, OTOH... yeah, me like. Me like lots. I just have to overcome the mental dissonance to enjoy it now, given that Ike usually bears some resemblance to canon!Ike whereas Marth is almost certain to be fanon!Marth. But when that pairing's done well... ooh la la.

Thank you, this was a fun, fun read - despite the truth inherent in it. I will also admit to having started off as a Gundam Wing fan (no fangirling for me, thnx... me be fanguy) but have pretty much consigned that poor fandom to rare visits nowadays because I cannot stand most of the tripe that one must wade through to find quality fic.
