When I was two years old, I was stricken with a bout of salmonella which almost killed me. When I lost consciousness, I was taken to hospital in an ambulance. AMEN. As an AMerican with UK family I WILL NEVER not support universal health care.

Most of the medical services in Canada are free; although, when you have a job, medican insurance is deducted from your pay, so it isn't that horrible. You still have to pay for certain things, but I won't complain as I've been lucky myself so far. However, my parents weren't when I was growing up, as a baby, my parents, since at that time, hearing aids and contact lenses were not covered by insurance especially for children (which is the case now).

My mother contracted german measles while carrying me, and caused quite a few health problems for me; however, now I am healthy despite my eyes and ears. I did have meningitis as a baby as well, which as you understand, I never remembered as well!
