Lesson Questions

Aug 27, 2010 11:00

As I prepared one of my new learning units for the upcoming school year, I evaluated the plans using questions I consider with every individual lesson and overall unit. Here are ten of the initial considerations. Since this list is a just starting point, perhaps you might share one or two of your own questions?

Are there elements of this lesson or project designed to spark a personal interest or curiosity for my students that might encourage them to learn more on the subject.

Perfect! Extending the learning process is so important and choosing topics that will spark this is vital.

Jen's comment on resources works hand-in-hand with this as a facilitator and it sounds, from your reply to her and the comments about your librarian, like this is already an ongoing part of your teaching, perhaps as an implication of the first of your 10 questions. Actually from your past posts I kind of expected that. *smiles*

oh, those are so good! and really seem to acknowledge the student as a *whole person*.

of course I love when teachers also consider (you may have grouped this under "materials/resources"): what technology can be integrated with this lesson? what library materials/information skills can be introduced/used/integrated with this lesson -- either in the teaching or in the product ?

Yay for wonderful teachers! have a great year!

Jen, that is essential as well! We are fortunate to have a great librarian at our school who helps us in so many ways. He creates search pages for specific projects, posts learning units on the library website, and seeks resources from other libraries if ours is lacking in that category. He is a dynamo! Our library is the <3 of our school. :-) (And best of all, just across the hall from me!)

Those are great questions and the first two are ones I use as an editor/reviser, when it comes to each scene: "Does this advance the plot?" "Does it achieve its purpose?"

I love that! Great point! (My writing and teaching life blend and weave together so seamlessly sometimes.)
