We're four episodes in and I'm still happy. I think going with a series instead of a movie or a two night show was a great idea. The deviations continue to not bother me. Except for Arlene. She's just not a skank in the novels

It sure is: Dead Until Dark is the first book of the series, which I think stands at eight books currently.
I'm at book 5 or so and starting to feel like I've been down this path. *coughs Anita Blake coughs* You know how it gets, every supe out there wants to get the heroine into bed and to keep people interested and buying more books, you've got to mix it up a little, toss in gasps! surprise twists. >But< I still plan on picking up the next book before deciding I'm done with it.
Ms. Harris has a couple of other mystery series out there w/ female leads. Since I enjoy her writing in general, I'm inclined to pick up the first book on one of them.
I'm really enjoying the series. The corny moments makes me giggle and everything else is pretty good vamp-drama. My only dislike is that I feel that sex scenes are seriously over exaggerated and unnecessary. I find that it takes away from the story and moves towards soft-core. While I appreciate a lil HBO adult content, it seems too much for me in the show. All in all though, I do like the series :)
The drug use aspect of vampire blood being more heavily emphasized bothers me, too. It wasn't that big of a deal in the novels. Again, I understand why (like scantily clad female tabletop figs) but I agree with you: I don't much care for it.
