It was in the early 1990's...the heat vapors made the ride in seem like a mirage. Adobe and desert colored homes roughly spotting an arid terrain that was so unfamiliar to me. I spent a week working there and stayed the weekend to absorb some of the energy of the place. I rented a car and drove up into the hills. I thought I'd see redrock but that's from another trip. I thought it would be colorless and dry. But it was beautiful and full of rich earthen shades that just absorbed the quiet beauty around.
I went back 3 or 4 times that year. Always driving out of town to be with the natural energy. I felt at peace in New Mexico. I felt one with the surroundings. The heat and sun and people and atmosphere still haunt my memories.

By the way, I really like your LJ icon; irises are one of my favorite flowers.
