This poem brought back a very content memory of NM to me. It haunting how it echoes in my head. I've come back to read this three times.

It was in the early 1990's...the heat vapors made the ride in seem like a mirage. Adobe and desert colored homes roughly spotting an arid terrain that was so unfamiliar to me. I spent a week working there and stayed the weekend to absorb some of the energy of the place. I rented a car and drove up into the hills. I thought I'd see redrock but that's from another trip. I thought it would be colorless and dry. But it was beautiful and full of rich earthen shades that just absorbed the quiet beauty around.

I went back 3 or 4 times that year. Always driving out of town to be with the natural energy. I felt at peace in New Mexico. I felt one with the surroundings. The heat and sun and people and atmosphere still haunt my memories.
