69: what are your favourite board games?I don't often get to play very many and didn't play hardly at all growing up. As an only child I literally had to make my own fun and so I ended up playing a lot of one-person/two-persona games. For instance: "Me" and "Myself" would play Monopoly and "Me" would always win. Or I'd play a four-player game of ( Read more... )

You have an interesting perspective on what you think might've influenced your stance on competitive situations. I always loved board games, but we always played them as a family. I've got brothers and one brother was a sore loser and we slowly stopped playing them because he'd get mad if he lost. I always liked playing for fun, but it was no fun with him getting mad lmao.

I've been hearing mixed things about Guardians of the Galaxy 2. So far, most people I know are saying they hated it or it was better than the first one lol. I guess I'll find out for myself when I eventually watch it!

As I got older and my nana got a bit more set in her ways she cheated a HELLA-lot when we'd play cards. It got to the point where my mom refused to play with her because she was the WORST sore loser. She was a MASTER at cheating (shuffling cards from one hand into her next deck, dropping cards in her lap, etc) and would do anything to win. It's a running joke now that she's gone and luckily no one else in the family picked up on her "talents", LOL.

I actually lied to my mom when I played softball the summer I was 9 because, while I didn't mind going to practices, I HATED playing games. I also never played an official game when I curled the winter I was 10. As soon as someone makes something competitive I try to bail. I guess I don't like how it makes me feel?

I rarely play board games either. I loved our "college version" of apples to apples and did play Clue as a kid, but otherwise, I tended to lose interest before I finished a game. That said, my family's standard for when the power goes out is poker, which is akin to board games.

There was a Sweet Valley High board game?! I'd have totally played that.

There was a Sweet Valley High board game?!It was the cat's ass! You could play as one of four characters: Jessica (PInk, I think), Elizabeth (Blue), Lila (the pale purple of that sweater she wore on the cover of the "Lila's Diary" book), or Enid (green). Each character had a story board with a scenario, a guy, an outfit, a... class? and something else? (I can't remember the exact formula but I know there were 5 categories). There were four quadrants on the board with four or five spots to lay tiles facedown on them. The goal was to roll your way through the board, flipping tiles to find and gather each tile that matched your board. Then I believe you had to roll to get back to the assigned homeroom of each character ( ... )
