The Abyss

I am going to put this under a cut because I know a few people have not read the third book yet. BEWARE OF THE SPOILERS.

Hi! I'm new :) But nonetheless I would like to comment here because I totally love this pairing.
I think the abyss is like dark cave(?) where you fall and fall and fall and you are unconcious so you don't notice anything. It is like you have the constant feeling of falling (literally) and you can't stop it, but at the same time you don't know what is really happening.
And I find this so sad for them because, from my idea of the abyss, they would never realise they have the other right besides them, so they are together but then they don't know so they aren't together at all :/
I hope I was clear enough (and btw, I'm joining right now because MrsCoulter/LordAsriel rocks♥)

They have Metatron with them, which I think might make it worse. Bad enough falling on your own, having an angry angel with you. I'll admit, I more skimmed than read the third book (I was impatient and now want to give it a proper read).

Do people speak down there? Can they still communicate? I imagine losing a sense of time, not knowing whether you've been down there five minutes or a thousand years.

One thing I wondered was why Marisa pulled Asriel with her. Did she need his weight to pull the angel down? Was it instinctive clinging? Because it seemed to me if she didn't need him to pull Metatron down she was sort of damning him.

Marisa didn't pull Asriel down with her, he was dying and Metatron was getting away and if he had flown any higher Asriel would have fallen alone. She actually asks Asriel, before the fight, 'We won't live will we? We wont survive like the ghosts?' to which he replies 'Not if we fall into the abyss' So they were both aware that in order to get Metatron down there they both would have to fall and sacrifice themselves.

I loved that part. How in the end the two of them are standing for the same thing and don't mind sacrificing themselves for their daughter and each other, even if it means the abyss.

Maybe in that 'forever' the abyss lasts they'll have time to cling to one another. Or maybe the fall is long but it feels like a second. Or who knows, with the changes made to the 'ruling system' their souls may be free as well? :3

I've been thinking about death and things of the sort a lot during the past few months (completely unwillingly btw) and I have to say that oblivion and infinity are two things that scare the hell out of me and make me absolutely sick to my stomach.

I hate to think of something having no end. Just endless nothingness.
No time, no nothing.
Just trapped.

I think that's what the abyss is and Marisa said herself that she was afraid of oblivion more than anything else.

I mean after you die, just to have your ghost falling, aware of things, forever and ever.
ick.
It's absolutely horrible.

The only consolation, I would hope, is that their ghosts would be together as they fell.
