Thanks for the recs on Thai cookbooks...I've been cooking disastrous curries off of Internet recipes, and I'm tired of it! :) I'll definitely be getting these when we're next in NYC.
When we went to Kerala and Tamil Nadu last summer we rode lots of tuk-tuk's...but in South India, they're called 'autos' - short for auto-rickshaw. They are indeed rad, and - a la old school NYC taxis - usually driven by madmen. On one occasion we were steered into 5 lanes of roaring Chennai traffic by a insane (and insanely mustachio-ed) auto driver, who obviously got his kicks scaring tourists. That said, we did survive! So, thanks, crazy dude. Thanks a lot.

I was off Thai food for several years because so many places serve the equivalent of fake Chinese for fairly high prices while Malaysian places were more authentic and cheaper. Then the good Thai restaurants in Queens got me back into the cuisine. I especially like the salads, which are perfect for summer. I was never off Thai iced tea, though. That would be crazy talk.
