On to Lorien

It's November. I suppose I should get back to the New Zealand adventure I had last February. After all, I wouldn't want to leave you all in suspense. ;)

Stubby (remember the mighty cousin of Gwaihir's younger brother?) set us down near the Silverlode on the other side of the mountains. We did not drink of it, because the water was icy cold. Also, pretty grimy looking.

Frodo experienced a tender moment as he stood once again in the Dimrill Dale. "Thank goodness I didn't have to walk down that again!" he said.

We followed the Silverlode until it merged with the beautiful Nimrodel.

In yet another improvement to Middle-earth, a permanent bridge had been erected.

Innocently, Maggie started across.

"Daro!" cried a commanding voice.

"What do you mean, 'None shall pass'?" Mariole demanded.

"We are Rúmil and Orophin, guardians of Lothlórien."

"What happened to Haldir?" Frodo asked, savoring fond memories.

"He had a speaking engagement at a con," answered Rúmil.

"Why do you hinder us, here at the edge of your lovely and most spotted forest?" asked Merry.

"I'm afraid we cannot allow you to pass until the humans among you comply with the customs of our land," replied the young, healthy, nearly naked guardian.

"What must we do?" asked Mariole eagerly.

"You must remove your shoes."

"Is that all you want us to remove?" she asked.

"Yes, honestly," said the young guards, so urgently they spoke over one another. "Seriously. Shoes alone will do it. Thanks very much."

Before Mariole could protest further, an entire greeting party jumped from the trees.

Putting us into a boat, they quickly and expertly guided us down the Nimrodel to Caras Galadon.

But would the Lady of the Galadrim be happy to see us, particularly after Mariole and Frodo had made a pass at her impressionable young guards? Find out in the next exciting installment: To Caras Galadon!
