Oh, that was a marvelous chapter. I love the way you wove in things for us to know about Sam's relationship with Bilbo and his mother and other people into the words we know he heard through the pain and fever. Makes me want to scurry back and reread the other chapters again!
I love it all, though I might have to have a stern word with Halfred and the Cotton brothers when all this is over. :P I especially love that Sam remembers that Frodo held him, though he likely won't once he actually wakes up. Also loved the part where all the people are staring in at him while he's learning to write and thinking that he shouldn't be allowed. On some level, it must have felt like that to him.
Another chappie early tomorrow you said? Can't wait!
Thanks, Gamgeefest! I really liked that bit about everyone thinking Sam shouldn't read. Oh, I have such guilty characters! *loves them all* And I'm sure Halfred and the Cotton brothers weren't _so_ violent; it's just that Sam had never met this kind of pain before, and his mind had nothing to liken it to. Poor bunny!
Oh, excellent!!!!! Fabulous juxtaposition here of what really happened with Sam's hallucinations. I *LOVE* that Bilbo's all mixed up in his memories, and that he knows Frodo by his smell, and how he remembers Frodo keeping him warm.
With any luck, though, he won't remember that shoulder being put back to rights. OW. (I have a couple of friends who've been through that, and they do NOT recommend it.)
