*whimper* Dear Sam, he had the whole village come to help him. Thank heavens hobbits have rectangular shed doors! It would have been tough to get a round one down the hole!
I love that Marigold pulled herself together enough to help. And the small gentle humor between her and Frodo was just right!
Of course they'll take him to Bag End! Maybe he'll even get Frodo's bed? Pretty please??
Thanks, Belleferret! We're finally moving into the comfort phase, hooray! I wasn't sure what they were going to use as a stretcher, until Gaffer took matters into his own hands. This ought to be called "The story of three sheds" (maybe not). I like the Frodo/Marigold dynamic as well. Thanks for your comments!
Ooooh, I think belleferret has a good idea--Frodo's bed is the largest and probably the softest, after all, and Sam's pretty banged up! ...and I've no ulterior motive. Why would you think that? ;)
It's seriously ridiculous how often I refresh my friends page looking for the next update. You ought to see my reaction when there is one. :)
Again with capable Frodo here--I loved the whistle, for some reason. I can just see everyone sort of snapping to attention--the Gaffer hollers frequently, but Frodo's so soft-spoken and kind that when he's loud, people pay attention, and quickly. *nods* He's the sort who gets stuff done--and he's right there in the thick of it the whole time, too. Doesn't fret about getting dirty, does our Frodo--and in this case, I mean that quite literally.
Thanks, Trilliah! My blushes! I'm so happy I can make these updates-- it's a little tricky when my schedule is busy, but I want to see what happens next as much as anybody else.
Thank you for your comments about Capable Fro-- he is that. The gentlehobbit, but also very much in command. Gosh, this is fun to write! Now, how can I possible make Sam and Frodo not dirty? :-D Cheers.
I loved the Gaffer getting motivated! Marigold was right; as soon as he knew Sam was alive, he snapped out of his grief and got busy! Poor Gaffer. Poor Sam. *hugs them all*
“That’s my big brother,” she whispered, blinking back her tears. Frodo found he had to blink several times himself, watching her. That so brought tears to me too... and rereading it... omigosh! :whimpers: from the angst. :P
and and..i couldn't stop thinking of Sam in well-deserved and long delayed blankets... he's far from being safe here but still, blankets... i love them fro comfort. :)
I especially love the end how they are taking him to Bag End. I also loved Marigold. She was crying, yet she focused on getting her task done. I can't wait for the next update.
Oh, clever of you to make an icon. As I am an iconless LJ newbie, that never occurred to me!
Glad we have Sam on firm ground. I thought they were going to drop him on the way up! My favorite part was Frodo staying in the hole for a moment alone, to feel and think about what Sam had gone through - and then his noting how bright the day seemed in comparison to the grim hole. Awwwww.
Icons are pretty easy. You can make them in LJ, but I just pop the picture in Paint, reduce the size, cut out my favorite part in 100x100 pixels, and upload it. It's fun to try to illustrate my stories.
No, they couldn't drop Sam on the way up. That would be too cruel, I couldn't do it! But I'm glad I made you worry. :) Thanks for your comments and the two Sam piccies!

Yes! a whole bunch of hobbits to come rescue Sam-- it was funny how you said the Gaffer took the shed door of the Twofoots. :)
*dies of your icon, of May's tears", and the Gaffer's so whole-hearted effort to get his son out of there*
more thoughts to come when i'm more recovered. :P
THANK YOU for your update and this latest development. :)
