Книги "Театр жестокости" и "Наказания в Китае".
Я долго не решалась эти книги выложить,особенно вторую. Но вчера, для поста о крысолове в очередной раз читая про безумства церкви даже по отношению к собакам и кошкам, решила показать. Как говорится- из песни слова не выкинешь. Все это реально было и сейчас, к сожалению, происходит, особенно при национально-религиозных конфликтах. Слабонервным смотреть не советую.

----------------Richard Verstegan ( Richard Rowlands) -------------------
Richard Verstegan (aka Richard Rowlands) (? 1548 -? 1636) был католиком англо-голландской Antiquarian, ювелир и издатель. Первая половина его жизни прошла в Англии, но его религия помешала ему получить степень в Оксфордском университете, где он, как полагают, изучил историю английского и англо-саксонского языков.
Verstegan опубликовал первое издание своего martyrologium, 'Theatrum Crudelitatum', в 1583 году
В книге ужасные подробности, жестокость, пытки и убийства католиков протестантами. После публикации автор был арестован и заключен в тюрьму за клевету против Короны , были конфискованы все книги и уничтожены (одна страница была сохранена). Благодаря вмешательству друзей в церковной иерархии, удалось добиться его освобождения, и он бежал из страны, в конечном итоге поселился в Антверпене.

The first half of his life was spent in England, but his religion prevented him from obtaining a degree from Oxford University, where he is thought to have studied English history and the Anglo-Saxon language.Upon publication, the author was arrested and imprisoned for libel against the Crown and all books were confiscated and destroyed (a single page has been saved). Through the intervention of friends in the clerical hierarchy, Verstegan was able to secure his release and he fled the country, ultimately settling in Antwerp.

Вобще же картинок с изображениями казней и пыток сохранилось очень много, каких только способов издевательства над себе подобными не придумали- чудовищной изобретательности человека просто поражаешься.
