Leverage, White Collar and a bit of Burn Notice

Aug 19, 2010 10:24

So for once I actually am caught up on this season of Leverage (I usually watch the show through the TNT site, which means that I'm generally a week or more behind). I'm considerably less caught up on White Collar (which I watch on Hulu and therefore, again, am a week or more behind ( Read more... )

You've been deliberately avoiding kfmonkey to avoid spoilerage re: Leverage, I take it?

I catch up on that blog afterwards - I like his detailed responses to everyone's questions/concerns.

But given that I'll now be at least a week behind on Leverage again for awhile (and yeah, I know I could watch the show earlier if I searched out various illegal sites, but, frankly, I'm just too lazy to do so) I'll probably just try to catch up on the blog a couple weeks after the mid season break, and then again in January.

Ah. Okay, then. I based that on your comments about the "Big Bad". And I think I may have already said too much too soon from your POV by saying that.

(I should further note that I do not yet watch the show by any means at all. I'm very much looking forward to the DVD sets in Canada. Someday.)

Well, I'm assuming that at least a couple of the episodes -- specifically the IRS/militia one, and possibly the car one, the mining one and the one with Nate's father will end up connecting back to the Big Bad. (I'm specifically mentioning cons that connected either to large mob groups or powerful politicians or political entities that would seem to have some connection with Big Bad. The IRS/militia one in particular seemed suspiciously connected.)

But what I meant was that no one on the show has mentioned either the Big Bad or George Clooney's girlfriend since the second or third episode. I'm more than ok with this, mind you, and I'm also aware that TNT is airing episodes out of order, so I suspect that the writers didn't actually intend this huge gap between mentions. This is in major contrast to White Collar which feels the need to mention music box/investigation into boring girl's explosion every episode, or Burn Notice, which is continuing to explore its main Michael gets Jesse his job back storyline even as it weaves the ( ... )

i've seen neither of these shows, but i used to love "mission: impossible" when it was on television, and these sound a bit similar (every week, they'd get an assignment where they'd have to pull off some sort of caper or con to achieve their mission). (can't compare to the MI movies--i haven't seen them.)

have you seen old MI episodes to tell me if it's a fair comparison?

It's been awhile since I saw the old Mission: Impossible episodes, so this comparison may not be fair, but, I think Leverage has considerably better dialogue - I usually laugh out loud a couple of times per week.

And for what it's worth, I never liked MI much - I found it too implausible. For some reason, the nearly equal implausibility of Leverage and Burn Notice (especially Burn Notice) doesn't bother me as much.

White Collar has the best looking people, if that's your thing.

I've never seen Leverage or White Collar.

I am an avid fan, however, of Burn Notice, for very specific reasons. I grew up on Miami Beach, as the child of a private investigator who worked all over the Miami area. My dad would have LOVED the show, and he would've recognized every single building, house, park, and side street in it. I wish I could watch the show with him... we'd have so much fun.

And yes, MAJOR props to the show for actually knowing what a hurricane is like. And for acknowledging that kicking someone out into a hurricane is a pretty clear indicator of one's total disdain for the person. ;-)

I think you'd actually like Leverage, mostly because of the geeky dialogue, but also because, well, Christian Kane. I'm less sure about White Collar since I have a feeling the fizzled out cliffhangers would get to you, however nice the eye candy.
