MS is already looking ahead to Windows 7, which is supposed to be more problem free (and include some GUI elements that are frankly stolen (if lightly modified) from Mac OS X). For all of their screw-ups--and you can include the XBox 360 red-ring-o-death in that too, not to mention the lukewarm reception for the Zune--they still have many billions in cash to ride this out.

I've heard better things about Windows 7. I'll be very happy to discard Vista, so, yeah, I think they may have a winner there.

And yeah, I'm not overly worried about Microsoft's long term prospects -- just saying that I don't think the economy is their ownly issue.

That doesn't bode well for my area. On the other hand, maybe the Bellevue housing bubble will collapse.

Windows 7 comes out this year and has been getting rave reviews from many, many people. Apparently, it's actually better performing than Vista on the same hardware.
