And the more I thought about it, the more the fraud bit irritated me. I realize they wanted to have Bruce Wayne lose all of his money, or at least seem to lose all of his money, but the method made no sense. Bane and Talia are supposed to be relatively smart villains who could have come up with other ways to take over Wayne Enterprises -- frame the company for killing little kids or something.
X-Men was definitely worse since for all of Bruce Wayne's "only I can decide whether or not the little people can have this energy thing that will solve the country's energy's needs," at least they showed Wayne having some interest in and awareness of other people's problems and the ability to be told that yes, yes, other people might see the world differently. And they showed that Wayne suffered major physical/emotional pain -- and that he could change. And that Wayne isn't always right

And Erik notices when people are in emotional pain. Xavier, the supposed telepath, doesn't.
I think Xavier would have come off better if we had seen him suffer at any point during the film before the end. Watching Bruce Wayne get thoroughly beaten up certainly increased his sympathy factor.
